Thank you to all who wrote to their MP, we were heard!

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

A huge thank you to everyone who wrote to their MP regarding the impending changes in legislation that would effect importing reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates in the UK, we were heard!

On 20th June 2023 Kenny MacAskill MP for Alba in East Lothian questioned DEFRA if the Target Operating Model (the legislation being proposed) would effect non commercial import of live animals.

Trudy Harrison stated that “Under the Target Operating Model, the requirements for the movement of non-commercial pets to/from GB will not change. Requirements can be found here on Gov.uk.

The question and answer can be seen here:

What does this mean for keepers?

After some correspondence between the FBH and APHA it has been stated that the guidance for importing pet reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates will not change so no veterinary certification will be required, the guidance can be found here:

We are currently querying the requirement for IPAFFS registration for non-commercial individuals and will update you as we find out.

Equally as important it shows that our voices are heard if we act and lobby MPs about issues we are concerned about.
